Anglicans of Second Life Treasury Update

Tithe Sixpence

Our Treasurer, Tithe Sixpence

First off, many apologies for the lack of updates in the past few months.  RL and all that…  Anyway, I thought this would be a good time to give an overview of the AoSL financial situation, as well as a picture of where things are at present.

I have updated the Financial Support page on this blog.  In it, I have outlined our need for donations, what our current budget is and how it was arrived at, and ways you can lend your support.  I have also simplified the Paypal donation option, so you can now make a one time payment to help support our ministry, in any amount that works for you!

As of the end of October 2011 we have raised 24% of our yearly goal amount.  Since our next tier payment will be due in May 2012, we are halfway through the current donation cycle.  Simply put, we are at the 50% time point, but only at the 24% donation point.

I am confident that we can meet our budget goals by the time our next tier payment is due, but we can’t do it without your help!  We deeply appreciate any donation you are able to make, no matter how small.  We know from your many words of support that our ministry is a meaningful part of many of your lives, and our goal is to do everything in our power to help ensure our ability to continue our SL ministry to you.

Thank you for all of the support you have shown us in many ways.  If you are in a position to help us financially, that is great!  But if you are not, please know that you are no less welcome, and that you contribute to our ministry simply by being part of it!  And, if you have any ideas about how we might boost our fundraising efforts, we would love to hear from you!

Thanks for reading this, and I hope to see you in-world soon!

Service changes for this week & prayers requested

Helene Milena will not be available to lead services for the next few days.  This means that the Thursday 2pm Cathedral service, and the noon Evening Prayer Chapel services from today (Wednesday) through Friday will not be held.

Much of this time will be spent in preparing for a RL meeting in Guildford, UK where, accompanied in RL by Able Shepard, and joined by way of SL by other Leadership Team members, she will meet with Bishop Christopher Hill.  This meeting with Bp. Hill, and others within the RL church, continues our work to finalize an Anglicans of SL Constitution, and help formalize our ties with the RL church.  The meeting will take place this Friday morning.  Your prayers leading up to and during this important meeting are most appreciated.

Introducing the Epiphany Marketplace!

Epiphany MarketplaceYou may have noticed a new structure on Epiphany Island.  Following up on an idea presented to us by a community member, we are in the early stages of setting up a venue that will enable community members to sell some of their creations on our land, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Anglicans of SL Treasury.  As we have noted here before, we depend entirely on volunteers to run the activities on Epiphany Island and on donations from the community and visitors to meet the land payments needed to maintain the sim.

We also think this will be a great way for us to get to know one another a bit more, by sharing our creations and creative inspirations with one another.  Each Marketplace vendor is invited to provide a notecard to be made available in a dispenser next to their Market space, in which they can share a bit of background about themselves and their creations, and also information about any other shop venues they may have in SL.  Please note, you do NOT have to have an existing shop within SL in order to participate in this.

I have already set up one vendor in the Marketplace (located next to the Community Center), containing a few items that I have created for this venture.  You are invited to stop by to take a look at how the vending system and display will look.  If you are interested in taking part, you may touch the sign at the Marketplace for an informational notecard, or contact me for more information, as well as to answer any further questions you may have.  We look forward to your participation in this exciting endeavor!

Pictures from Founders’ Day 2011!

Thanks to all who showed up to share in the fun and lend their support to our ministry at our first annual Founders’ Day Celebration on Epiphany Island.  We were very pleased to have Monty Merlin, architect and builder of the cathedral, in attendance to share some of the history of our group with those who attended.  Charlie12string Lax took some pictures at the event, which you can view here (apologies for the delay in getting these posted!).  Click the picture below to view all of the pictures, either individually or as a slideshow.

Founders’ Day Celebration on March 5

Please plan to join us on Saturday, March 5 at noon SLT for our first annual Founders’ Day Celebration on Epiphany Island!  Four years ago this spring, the Anglican Cathedral in Second Life was built, thanks to the hard work and vision of a group of Anglicans exploring the potential of this new domain.  We cordially invite all the members of our community, both old and new, as well as any guests who would like to share in the festivities with us.

The events will include a short thanksgiving service in the Peace Garden (just to the north of the courtyard area), followed by a community gathering at the Parish House patio, with DJ Symmetry Munro spinning a festive mix of Cajun and Zydeco music, and plenty of treats in store, including fireworks display.  It promises to be a fun time for all!

This will be a great opportunity for us to see old and new friends, and look back on how far our community has come in the past four years.  At the same time, we are always working to develop our ministry with an eye to the future.  We have been blessed with great support from our community.  However, we won’t be able to sustain this ministry without your continuing financial support to cover the cost of maintaining Epiphany Island.  Please prayerfully consider making a special offering to our treasury fund at this time.  As a reminder, all of the money donated goes toward our tier (land rental) payment.  As of the end of February, we are only 62% of the way toward our next payment, which will come due in June.  With your support, we hope to continue our presence in Second Life for many years to come.  Thank you for your support of our ministry, and we hope to see you there!

An update on our fundraising goals

First off, I’d like to extend our thanks to the members of our community who have so generously stepped up to provide both financial contributions and feedback on how we might move forward in this challenging time.

We have considered how best to keep all of you informed about our progress toward our revised donation goals.  Above all of our donation fonts and baskets, there is floating text that displays our current monthly donation goals.  This goal number was formerly calculated by taking the total cost of the annual tier payment (converted to Linden dollars) and dividing it by 12.  We have now decided to go with a more dynamic and accurate means of goal setting.

A Call to the AoSL Community

I’d like to share with you the current status of the Anglicans of SL financial situation.  As you may know, each month we have set a donation goal amount equivalent to one month’s tier payment.  We have brought in an average of 84% of our monthly goal amounts for the past six months.  The donations have risen a bit within the past three months, to an average of 92% of our monthly goals.  We have been encouraged by this, and have been working hard to develop offerings that will bring in more community members and encourage further financial support of our ministry.  We weren’t quite where we wanted to be in terms of financial stability, but we felt we were in pretty good shape.

Yesterday we learned of some news that casts a very different light on things.  An announcement was made on the SL blog regarding land pricing for educational and non-profit land owners.  Currently, Linden Lab allows these organizations to purchase and maintain private region sims for half the price as that charged to other retail customers.  It was announced yesterday that this special pricing will end on December 31, 2010, after which time these organizations will be billed at the regular price.  This will, in effect, double our donation goals.

Community Centre Social Nights

A report on our recent social events by Charlie12string Lax.

One of the new things happening lately on Epiphany Island has been the community social nights on Fridays SL Time. Cady has done a lot of work over the last few months and has transformed the Community centre, putting a dance floor on the top floor, which is open to the sky and has a lovely view of the Cathedral.

On the 9th of July ZoeRose and Cady put on a 60’s night. On the 16th Patapon and Cady ran a Black and White night where most people came wearing a combination of black and white clothing. Sadly I haven’t got any photos of these dances but we had great fun with good dancing, company, and music.

A wonderful group of people came together and helped celebrate the commissioning of the various updated parts of the sim on Sunday the 18th July, which has been refered to in another post.

On the 23rd we had another dance. This time it was with a County & Western theme and included a hay ride, horses, cows and an assortment of other animals and of course lots of hay, country clothing, hats and country music. One person said that although she was not a fan of country music she enjoyed the company of the people the dancing, and it was a great time.

We believe the building up of a real community needs to cover all aspects of our Christian lives, relaxing and having fun, as well engaging in worship and prayer. So far we have tried to run the dances twice on Fridays SL time at 12.30 – 2.30 and again at 8 – 10pm. If you would like to help in the organizing of these events please speak to Cady, Patapon, or any of the leadership team. Come and join in the fun! There will be a different theme each week.

Anglicans of Second Life Quarterly Financial Report (April-June 2010)

Status of SL Treasury alt accounts

Prior to April of this year, all inworld donations were paid to an SL alt account by the name of CathedralWarden Dover.  This account was administered by Snerbert Sands (Craige Gravestein in RL), who was then acting as AoSL Treasurer.  Snerbert has since stepped down from this position due to RL time constraints.  At that time, the funds in this alt account were transferred to Arkin Ariantho (Rev. Mark Brown in RL), who is the owner of Epiphany Island and therefore responsible for payment of our tier fees.  Our other source of donations is through Paypal, and the money in that account was transferred to Mark as well.  Mark is invoiced once a year (in June) for the tier payment, and I am happy to report that there was enough money in both accounts to cover the payment made this past June.

On April 1 of this year, the collection of inworld donations was turned over to the SL alt account by the name of Tithe Sixpence, which is being administered by Cady Enoch (Mary Wanamaker in RL).  This report will address the activity of the Tithe Sixpence account, as well as the Paypal donations received since April 1.
