A Cathedral Christmas

We’re looking forward to having plenty of opportunities to meet together and worship at this special Christmas season. Normal services will continue but there are also special services planned.

On Saturday 19th December at 10.30pm SLT there will be a Nine Lessons and Carols service, which will also run at noon SLT on Sunday 20th December. It would be wonderful to hear from anyone who can use voice in world and would like to read in one of those services. Don’t be shy – volunteer! One of the special features of worship in SL is that we hear accents from around the world, reminding us that we are a worldwide church, that we hug the globe with prayers as we meet.

At 2pm SLT on Christmas Eve, 24th December, there will be a service of welcome for the end of the Posada, when we will welcome Mary and Joseph back to the Cathedral. They set off on their journey on Advent Sunday and have visited homes, churches, chapels, cathedrals and clubs since then. There have been conversations, prayers, fellowship and a deepening sense of what Advent is all about. It would be wonderful if as many people as possible could be present to welcome the holy pair as they return.

On Christmas Day, noon SLT 25th December there will be a Christmas service, recognising that for some of our members Christmas Day will already be past. Fortunately, for Christians, Christmas is a season not a day, and we can continue to celebrate with joy the coming of our Lord.

On New Year’s Eve, 31st December, at 2pm SLT there will be a covenant service when we dedicate ourselves afresh to serving God in the year to come. Whether or not you are making any New Year’s resolutions, this is a good way to round off one year and begin another.

We recognise that this can be a season of stresses and strains for many people. There may be sad memories, family tensions, financial difficulties which make Christmas anything but merry. If you find yourself in need of a listening ear members of our Prayer Team will be around over the festive season, as will I. Do contact us if we can be of any help to you.

If you are a member of the Anglican group of SL, do spread the word about these services. A copy of the picture in this post will be available with a notecard in world if you would like to pass it on to friends. It appeared as an advertisement in Best of SL magazine. It’s also possible to copy the signboard outside the Cathedral and place it on your land or at your place of business.

I’d like to wish everyone, community members and those who follow our blog, blessings this Christmas and in the year to come.
