Managed to run my service in Second Life even though I am on business in Bangkok! Check out my message from the service below in which I look at the question, ‘So how does Jesus face his suffering and death?’

We are entering into the last week of our Community Survey Project.  Starting at the Saturday Discussion Groups and continuing with discussions held after our services on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will invite community members to engage in conversations with the Leadership Team on a set of questions related to a particular theme each week.  In addition, we have launched an online survey, also accessible on our blog.  You are encouraged to visit this site to see the themes and questions for each week, and leave your thoughts and ideas in the Comments section.  You may also contact any of the members of the Leadership Team and share your comments with them directly. For the next few weeks, we will dedicate our Tuesday and Thursday worship services to prayer for this process, as well as for personal prayer requests.

Week 5

Community involvement and service – building God’s kingdom

  • In what ways should we, as a church, be involved in the local community of SL?
  • What should we do to listen to the world around us?
  • How should we find out and draw upon the skills and gifts that church members bring from the whole of life?
  • What do the sermons and intercession in Sunday worship say about how the church sees its relationship with the world around?
  • Are there any particular areas of SL with which we feel called to engage?
  • Are there particular groupings whom we are called to serve?
  • Can we develop our Epiphany Island to be a resource for the wider community?
  • Can we engage with others in order to meet the needs of the people of SL?

Two of the most important passages of the Bible feature in today’s readings which were Psalm 107:1-9. Ephesians 2:1-10, John 3:14-21.

No matter how much success we have in life, no matter how big our house or our car, there is nothing we can do to earn our way out of spiritual death, which is our natural condition until God intervenes. Boasting about our achievements is really pretty pointless.

At the 1pm service today I preached on the topic of spring cleaning. Not the sort you do with a duster and mop, but the spring cleaning of our lives. The readings are psalme 19, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, John 2:13-22. To learn more, read on … (more…)

Hello all!

I am very pleased to announce that we are adding a new worship service to the Cathedral schedule.  Caoilin Galthie will be leading services on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm SLT.  These services will be based on the Liturgy of the Word portion of the Holy Eucharist, Rite II service from the US Book of Common Prayer (1979).  The readings will be taken from those appointed by the Revised Common Lectionary for the following Sunday.  The first service will be held this Wednesday, March 18.  I do hope that you will have an opportunity to join us!

Blessings,
Cady

Greetings to you all!

Below is the text of the sermon that Rev. Mark preached at the Saturday evening service on March 7, 2009.  Mark was a bit under the weather (and still is, so prayers appreciated!).  As a result, the following was delivered in text chat, so there is no recording this week.  I invite you to read this message to our community, and please feel free to add your comments!

I hope you are all having a blessed Lenten season!

Cady

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Well, what I want to share with you today is the vision, the purpose, why we exist for this ministry here in Second Life, this Anglican Cathedral here in Second Life.

It all began in January, 2007.  While undertaking some research into this thing called Web 2.0, I came across Second Life.  I remember very clearly my idea as I was looking at many different things within the Web 2.0 world, was just to briefly have a look, to check it out, see what it’s about, and incorporate some of it in my research.

Heads up!  The US will commence Daylight Savings Time (DST) this Sunday morning.  As this will affect Second Life Time (SLT), it is shaking up our schedule of Services & Events.  I have spent a fair bit of time this past week working this all through and coordinating things with our event and service leaders.  So, here is how things will change in the coming weeks.
